Reunion Survey Reminder

Ok.....it's getting cold and winter is settling in.....time to locate those Reunion Surveys that went out with the August/September issue, fill 'em out, and send 'em in. If you missed out on receiving a survey, please email me (cheryllgrice@cs.com) and I will get one to you. Please try to get them in as soon as possible so we will know what your preferences for a reunion are.

So far we are confirmed that the reunion will be held at cousin Nelson McNairn's farm in Cardinal, Ontario, in August of 2003. We are still undecided as far as what day (Saturday or Sunday) but it will most likely be the last or second-to-last weekend of the month, before the kiddies start back to school. LET US KNOW WHAT WILL MAKE THIS AN EVENT TO REMEMBER!!!!!!

Family News

Well....at least the news is a BIT more exciting this month.....Nov. 16-18 Judi and Cheryl did manage to get together again! Judi drove all the way from Canada down to Indiana to visit. Although we keep in contact on a daily basis via the computer, it's always nice to get together in person! We had a great time talking about family, genealogy, computers, and lots of other everyday topics.

During one of our routine searches on the internet, we found a library in Watertown, NY that had a booklet entitled, "The McNairn Generations -- McNairn Genealogy: From Canada to Norwood, NY and Philadelphia, NY". I wrote to them and they sent a photocopy of the booklet, which just arrived yesterday. The booklet consists mostly of Family Group Sheets and Descendancy Charts. While most of the information included in this booklet was already familiar to Judi and I, there are also photocopies of several pictures and documents that relate to the family that are new to us. Most of these photographs and documents deal with the Solomon Alonzo McNairn family from Cornwall, ON. There is no mention as to who actually put this booklet together, but Rev. Norman McNairn and Ted McNairn are both mentioned as contributors. The last part of the booklet actually consists of Issues No. 1 and 2 of "The McNairn Family Record", which was written by Rev. Norman McNairn in March and August of 1987.

Now, another bit of rather bad news has come to my attention. One of our younger cousins has discovered that she has several tumors, and tests are being done to determine if they are cancerous or not. Since I am not sure if she wants to be mentioned by name, I’m going to leave out that information for right now. But I am sure that she would appreciate your prayers, good thoughts, and well wishes right now.

Cheryl's Recipe Corner

In honor of Thanksgiving, here are a couple of fun and tasty recipes. If you try the first one, let me know how it comes out......and how long it takes for you to clean up your oven afterwards!

Exploding Turkey

One 15-20 pound turkey
2 cups crushed bread
2 tsp salt
2 tsp pepper
1/2 cup butter
2 cups unpopped popcorn
Mix all ingredients and stuff turkey. Bake in oven at 375 degrees F for 4 hours or until the popcorn lets go and blows the rear end right out of the turkey.
(This recipe came from an old newspaper. My step-granddad gave it to my mom, and she passed it along to me. ~C)

Best Cheese Ball

2 - 8oz. pkgs. Neufchatel cheese (Philadelphia Cream Cheese)
dash of paprika
garlic salt (about 1 tsp)
fresh grated onion (I like to use about 4 chopped leeks)
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 pkg chopped beef, cut up fine

Combine all ingredients, using only half of the chopped beef, mixing very well. Form into a ball and roll in remaining half of chopped beef. Place on a small serving plate and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Serve with crackers, preferably "Club" crackers!  (This is a holiday favorite that I grew up with. YUM!)

In Closing...

...I would like to pass along this verse that I found. It kind of puts all of the genealogy work we do into perspective.
Remember me in the family tree--
My name, my day, my strife;
Then I'll ride upon the wings of time
And live an endless life.     ---Goetsch

See you next month....and have a great Thanksgiving!
